Claude AI Leads in User Satisfaction
A recent YouGov survey has ranked AI tools and assistants by user satisfaction, with Anthropic's Claude AI emerging as the clear leader. According to data collected between March 1 and July 31, 2026, Claude achieved a net satisfaction score of 56.2 among current and former users, significantly ahead of Google's Gemini at 46.5 and OpenAI's ChatGPT at 46.0.
Satisfaction vs. Preference: Key Differences
The survey, which is part of YouGov's AI brand rankings series, measures the percentage of users who report a positive experience minus those who report a negative one. This differs from YouGov's earlier Preference ranking, which measured overall brand affinity. Notably, ChatGPT was the top brand in Preference, but when the base shifts to actual users and their experiences, Claude takes the lead. Apple Intelligence and Perplexity AI also rank highly in Satisfaction despite being lower in Preference, suggesting that user experience can diverge from overall brand perception.
Current vs. Former Users: Retention Challenges
The survey also breaks down satisfaction by current and former users, offering insight into how feelings change after people move on. Among current users, DeepSeek records the highest score at 76.4, closely followed by Claude at 76.0, Apple Intelligence at 75.1, Perplexity AI at 73.4, and ChatGPT at 72.5. Former users show lower scores across the board, with Apple Intelligence leading at 33.5, followed by Claude at 30.4, Perplexity AI at 27.8, and DeepSeek at 27.0. ChatGPT shows the sharpest contrast, with a 75.3-point gap between current and former users, indicating significant churn-related dissatisfaction.
Bottom of the Table: Grok and Siri
At the other end of the spectrum, xAI's Grok and Apple's Siri recorded the lowest satisfaction scores among the top 10, with net scores of 39.0 and 40.4 respectively. Microsoft's Copilot (37.2) and Amazon's Alexa (42.6) also ranked low, surprising given the size of their parent companies. The survey suggests that tools which are pre-installed or easily accessible, like Siri or Alexa, may not generate the same level of enthusiasm as those that users actively seek out, such as Claude or ChatGPT.
Methodology and Caveats
The data for this survey was collected by YouGov BrandIndex over the specified five-month period. Satisfaction scores are based on responses from individuals who identified themselves as current or former users of each AI product. The survey excluded certain brands, such as Canva Magic Studio, DALL·E, Midjourney, DeepMind, and LLaMA, due to insufficient sample sizes. It is important to note that the survey does not account for differences in discoverability or ease of use, which could influence user satisfaction independently of the product's quality.
