Cadillac Reveals V-One Concept

Cadillac has pulled the covers off a striking new hybrid V8 hypercar, the V-One, which was displayed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering last week. Described by the brand as a "concept study," the single-seat machine previews what the company's R endurance race car could look like if offered to buyers seeking a track-focused vehicle.

According to Cadillac, the V-One is derived from the hypercar used in its LMDh race program and was co-developed by Cadillac Design, Cadillac Racing, and chassis constructor Dallara. The collaboration has resulted in a car that shares much of its DNA with the race car, including an aerodynamic package inspired by the R and key components such as double-wishbone suspension and pushrod-actuated coil and torsion spring elements, with lateral and heave dampers fitted front and rear.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the skin, the V-One packs a 5-litre hybrid V8 powertrain that produces around 619kW of power. This is notably more than the race car, which is capped at 500kW due to LMDh regulations. The increased output highlights the performance potential of the powertrain when unshackled from racing rules.

The concept also features a body shared with the race car, but Cadillac has added what it calls "refined details that make the concept feel more advanced, more technical and more tailored to Cadillac luxury." These include a new wheel design, updated badging, and a silver and deep navy hand-sprayed gradient paint job.

Interior and Design

Like the R, the V-One features a single-seat configuration with an exposed carbon structure. However, the concept adds a serialised plaque and uses different materials, including Cadillac Collection recycled fabrics, giving it a more production-ready feel despite its status as a concept.

Cadillac has confirmed it will not put the V-One into production. Nonetheless, executive design director Dominic Najafi described the concept as "a clear sign of our ambition for the Cadillac V-Series brand in the future" and "the ultimate manifestation of a customer performance concept."

V-Series Heritage and Future

The V-One arrives as Cadillac continues to expand its V-Series performance lineup. The brand has been producing high-performance V-Series road cars since 2004, applying the badge to a range of vehicles from supercharged V8 roadsters to electric SUVs such as the Lyriq-V, which will be the first V-Series model variant offered in Australia. In 2021, Cadillac revealed its first V-Series Blackwing vehicles, and it currently offers one such model based on the CT5 sedan, alongside the Escalade-V, a full-size SUV with a supercharged V8. The company recently ended production of the CT4-V and CT4-V Blackwing sedans.

Cadillac's motorsport pedigree runs deep, with a long history that includes Le Mans and FIA GT3 racing. The R endurance race car has notched up 10 wins, 16 pole positions, and 32 podiums since 2023 across the IMSA WeatherTech Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship. Looking ahead, Cadillac is set to join Formula 1 as the 11th team for the 2026 season, backed by TWG Motorsports, signalling an ambitious future for the brand's performance division.
