A New Hampshire man has died from gunshot wounds he received in a shooting that killed his mother and brother earlier this month, according to the state attorney general's office.
Michael Marro, 41, had been hospitalized in critical condition since the Aug. 11 shooting that left him with a "catastrophic gunshot wound to the head." The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death a homicide, Attorney General John Formella's office announced Monday.
Authorities did not specify when Marro died, but said an autopsy confirmed he died of a gunshot wound to the head.
The shooting took place just before 1 a.m. at 3 Hilltop Manor St. in Whitefield, where officers located three family members — Amy Blake, 59, Eric Blake Jr., 29, and Marro — each suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, officials said.
Amy Blake, Marro's mother, died from a gunshot wound to the head after being hospitalized in critical condition; her death was ruled a homicide, authorities announced Aug. 17.
Eric Blake Jr. died at the hospital on the day of the shooting, with officials ruling his death a suicide.
The fourth family member, 53-year-old Eric Blake Sr., drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound shortly after the incident and reported what happened. He is expected to survive, according to officials.
Officials are investigating the case as a "potential attempted murder(s) and suicide," in which Eric Blake Jr. turned the gun on himself after shooting Amy Blake, Marro, and Eric Blake Sr. Mental illness was a "likely contributing factor" to his actions, the attorney general's office said. Because he did not survive, no criminal charges will be filed against him.
Authorities were first alerted to the incident about 12:50 a.m., when an erratic driver was hitting vehicles on Hilltop Manor Street, officials said. Officers, including from nearby towns, found three people inside a residence who had been shot; the fourth relative had driven himself to the hospital.
Whitefield is a town of about 2,500 residents located in Coos County in northern New Hampshire, not far from the Vermont border.
