Britain's Got Talent star Mike Newall has been hospitalised after suffering a brain haemorrhage while on a family holiday in Wales. The 45-year-old comedian, who appeared on the ITV talent show in 2020, was with his wife and two children when he became seriously ill.
His wife Nico recounted the ordeal in an Instagram post, describing how life changed "in the blink of an eye". She explained that after calling an ambulance, she decided it would be quicker to drive Mike the 40 minutes to the nearest hospital herself. "All while my brave, funny man battled the most unbearable pain," she wrote.
After scans revealed a brain haemorrhage, Mike was transferred to a specialist hospital in Liverpool. Nico said the family was told to "prepare for the worst", leading to what she called "the most agonising night of our lives". However, she later confirmed that the bleeding on his brain had stopped.
Recovery and ongoing monitoring
Nico shared that Mike remains "so calm and positive" even in the face of the ordeal. "I'm so relieved to say that things have improved," she wrote. "His pain is being managed, his stats are improving every day and he is doing amazingly well."
She noted that Mike still has "a long road of recovery ahead" and that doctors are monitoring risks "round the clock over the next couple of weeks". The family is taking things "one day at a time", she said, adding that they feel "so much more hopeful today" and are praying for a full recovery.
In a separate post, Nico thanked followers and the comedy community for their support, writing: "It has meant the absolute world to us. Friends and family are everything. As for the comedy community – I've been in tears all day at your generosity."
Support fund
Promoter Peter Vincent launched a GoFundMe page to support Mike and his family during his recovery. The page notes that Mike is expected to be out of work for "a good while" and faces a long recovery. As of the latest reports, the fund has raised over £12,000, well on its way to the £16,000 goal.
