Michaels Steps Off the Road Again

He wanted to attempt this show, but we feele there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.”

The decision came just hours after Michaels posted on Facebook about how excited he was to return to the stage. According to multiple reports, he had attempted the concert despite not fully recovering from the operation.

Rolling Stone reported that he had six more dates booked on his Live and Amplified Tour for August and September, plus a pair of November gigs. The statement on Michaels' social media also quoted Michaels Entertainment Group as saying: “Our deepest apologies from Michaels Entertainment Group, as we were truly looking forward to the rest of this year’s shows, including @themountainmusicfestival, private events and all the great shows coming up. We now look ahead and to Bret being able to return healthy, strong and ready to rock.”

In late July, Michaels revealed that he had undergone surgery to remove a kidney stone. A statement said he had been diagnosed with a “complicated obstructing kidney stone requiring immediate surgery” on July 19, and following the operation, a ureteral stent was placed. The announcement warned that the combined with strenuous physical exertion from performances could carry a high risk of intense pain spikes, gross hematuria, and acute stent displacement requiring immediate medical intervention.

Michaels, 63, has Type 1 diabetes, which complicates his recovery. His doctors attributed the need to rest partly to the effects of summer heat and humidity on his blood sugar levels. In a note, Michaels expressed gratitude for his medical team, saying he was “forever grateful” and hoped to be back on the road late August. He said that as a Type 1 diabetic, the situation took a toll on his blood sugar and blood pressure, and doctors are tweaking his medication and insulin. He wrote, “If I could, I would be back out there tomorrow,” and said he was “especially crushed to miss Tennessee’s Mountain Music Festival” though he vowed to return in 2027 or 2028.
