FairPrice doubles CHAS discount for Blue and Orange cardholders

SINGAPORE – From Sept 3, Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Blue and Orange cardholders will receive a 6 per cent discount at FairPrice outlets, up from the usual 3 per cent, on designated days until Jan 1. The promotion applies to purchases at all FairPrice stores, Unity pharmacies and FairPrice Online, with the discount capped at a total spend of S$200 (US$157) per customer per day.

Blue cardholders can enjoy the discount on Thursdays, while Orange cardholders can do so on Fridays. In-store shoppers can present their CHAS card to cashiers before payment, and online shoppers can link their CHAS account to the FairPrice Group app to have the discount applied automatically at checkout. Eligible cardholders also receive a waiver of service fees for online delivery orders on those days.

The renewed scheme is the second time this year that FairPrice Group (FPG) has doubled its CHAS discount for Blue and Orange cardholders, following a similar promotion that ran from Apr 9 to May 31. According to FPG, the discounts can be used alongside existing store promotions and CDC vouchers.

Support for living costs

FairPrice Group said the initiative is supported by its philanthropic arm, the FairPrice Foundation, and builds on more than S$10 million in savings already extended to CHAS cardholders in 2026, as stated by NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng. He noted that the doubled discount would add up to meaningful savings over time, particularly for lower-income households.

“In particular for lower-income households, with the discount doubled, this will add up to meaningful savings over time,” said Mr Ng, who is also secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). NTUC’s social mission includes keeping grocery bills manageable, he added.

Vipul Chawla, group CEO of FairPrice Group, said doubling the discounts reflects the group’s commitment to supporting eligible households. “As the first retailer in Singapore to introduce discounts for CHAS cardholders, we have consistently looked for ways to support our community, especially those who may need more help,” he said.

Context of broader measures

The discount comes amid a series of FairPrice initiatives this year to help Singaporeans cope with higher living costs. These include price freezes on more than 500 daily essentials from Jun 1 to Aug 31, a National Day return voucher for shoppers who spent at least S$61 in a single receipt, and promotions offering discounts of up to 36 per cent on housebrand essentials earlier in the year, as reported by CNA and The Straits Times.

FPG said the newly announced discounts extend the more than S$10 million in savings already provided to CHAS card holders in 2026, with the company aiming to deliver “meaningful value” both in-store and online, as Mr Chawla put it.
