Theatrical Release Announced

Lisa of Blackpink's documentary "Always Lalisa" will open in cinemas and IMAX worldwide for a limited engagement beginning Oct. 12, as announced Wednesday (Sept. 2). The film, directed by Sue Kim, will be distributed theatrically by Trafalgar Releasing before moving to YouTube Premium for an exclusive streaming release later in 2026, according to Sony Music Vision, which revealed the plans.

Tickets for the screenings will go on sale Sept. 9 via the film's website, as reported by Billboard. The documentary is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, with one report specifying Sept. 18 for the premiere.

About the Documentary

The project chronicles Lisa's "transformative year away from BLACKPINK," as described in promotional material cited by Billboard. The description says that as the group pauses activities, Lisa embarks on the first true chapter of her solo career, confronting the question of who she is beyond the group. It continues: "Forging her own path, particularly in the Western music market, brings new pressures, relentless scrutiny and the challenge of redefining herself on her own terms."

Variety reports that the film tracks a pivotal year in Lisa's life as she steps away from Blackpink for the first time since childhood, pursuing a solo career, acting work and brand-building while trying to hold on to a private life. Deadline describes the year as one of independence, chronicling the "fear and pressure of launching a solo career, pursuing acting, and building a brand, while yearning to maintain a personal life beyond the spotlight."

Production and Distribution

"Always Lalisa" is produced by Sony Music Vision with RCA Records and Tremolo Productions, in association with Salt Water Productions and Lloud Co. Producers are Sue Kim and Courtney Crockett for Salt Water Productions, as reported by Deadline.

Sony Music Vision president Tom Mackay said: "Lisa's music resonates with fans across the globe and we hope this film creates that same powerful connection." Marc Allenby, chief executive of Trafalgar Releasing, called the documentary an unguarded look at Lisa's path from Blackpink stardom to global recognition, adding: "Blinks have been waiting for this story and we are proud to give them the opportunity to celebrate her incredible journey together in cinemas worldwide."

Lyor Cohen, global head of music at YouTube, described Lisa as a performer who has built a close bond with fans through the platform. "There's no better place to share her story than on YouTube, giving her millions of fans a front-row seat to her evolution as an artist," Cohen said.

Lisa's Recent Milestones

The announcement comes amid a period of high-profile activity for Lisa. She performed "Goals" alongside Anitta and Rema at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first female K-pop and Thai artist to take that stage, as reported by both Deadline and Variety. She also played Coachella 2025 as a solo act, sat on the 2026 Met Gala host committee as the first K-pop artist in that role, and presented at the 2026 Golden Globes.

Lisa made her acting debut as Mook in HBO's "The White Lotus" and has two Netflix projects in the works — starring in and executive producing the action film "Tygo" and an untitled romantic comedy in development. Her upcoming EP "Press Play" arrives Oct. 23, led by first single "SaWaDika," out Sept. 3.

Additionally, Lisa became the first K-pop artist to hold a Las Vegas residency, with her four-show "Viva La Lisa" run at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace set for Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 27-28, selling out in under 10 minutes, as reported by Variety.
