BJP will end corruption, drug menace in Punjab, says Haryana CM
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, speaking at a Teej festival in Ghanaur town of Patiala district on Saturday, said that once the BJP forms a government in Punjab, those involved in the drug trade would be forced to quit or leave the state. He also promised that youth in Punjab would receive government jobs without "parchi" (cheating) or "kharchi" (bribe), asserting that "the entire network of corruption in recruitment will be eliminated when the BJP comes to power."
Saini alleged that Punjab's politics is "passing through a phase where a deep conflict appears to be emerging between power, stability and public interest," and claimed political instability in the state is increasing. He said Punjab needs a "double-engine government" that not only makes promises but can also fulfill them.
The Chief Minister said the state needs leadership that can take decisions and put people's interests first, adding that such leadership is possible under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said if the BJP forms the government in Punjab, it would work toward building a "Viksit Punjab" on the lines of PM Modi's vision for "Viksit Bharat." Punjab is slated to go to polls early next year.
Saini pointed to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of excise inspectors in Punjab and noted that the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a stay notice on recruitments in the Health Department, citing recommendations of influential people at the cost of the poor youth.
Criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Saini said, "AAP had promised Rs 1,000 every month to women. Nearly five years have passed, and now the CM is asking women whether he should deposit one month's money, two months' money or three months' money. What else can this be if not a joke?"
He further claimed that industrial units were migrating from Punjab due to poor law and order, creating an employment crisis and pushing youth toward drug addiction.
Saini also highlighted Haryana's progress, saying the state has fulfilled 70 of the 217 commitments made in its assembly election manifesto within 18 months. He said government jobs were provided to youth without "parchi" and "kharchi," while in Punjab, youth face discrimination in employment. He noted that medical colleges have been started in 17 of Haryana's 23 districts.
On the issue of drugs, Saini said the Haryana government has launched a comprehensive campaign against the menace, with strict action against drug peddlers. He added that Haryana has established 2,000 sports nurseries to connect young people with sports, and mentioned that five of India's seven gold medals at the Commonwealth Games were won by daughters of Haryana.
According to ANI, Saini made similar remarks while addressing a programme for representatives of the Valmiki and Sikh communities of Punjab at his residence in Chandigarh. He said the BJP has fulfilled 70 of the 217 commitments made in its Haryana election manifesto within just 18 months.
Saini did not mention any possible alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and BJP in Punjab during his address.
