Biker taken to hospital after serious crash near Devon border

A biker has been taken to hospital after a serious crash near the A35, with road closures in place on the busy route.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a collision involving a motorbike and a car on Elsdons Lane in Monkton Wyld, a spokesperson for Dorset Police told DevonLive and Somerset Live. The extent of the injured person's injuries is not known at this time.

Dorset Police confirmed the incident in a statement: "We were called at 10.37am on Wednesday 19 August 2026 to reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a car in Elsdons Lane in Monkton Wyld. Emergency services are in attendance and road closures are in place."

Road closures and traffic impact

The A35 Raymonds Hill is closed in both directions, with queueing traffic reported. Roads and traffic monitoring site Inrix stated: "A35 Raymonds Hill in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to serious accident between Elsdons Lane and the B3165."

Drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible, and Google Maps suggests the road will be closed for some time this afternoon. The closures were still in effect as of early afternoon, based on reports published at 14:58.

Motorists are urged to plan alternative routes while emergency services continue to deal with the incident.
