A $200,000 Donation for Indiana Flood Relief
Beyoncé's BeyGOOD Foundation is donating $200,000 to support relief efforts following the historic flooding and destructive storms that struck Indiana in August. The foundation announced the donation on Monday, stating that the funds will assist City Life Center and Angel by Nature, two organizations on the ground helping communities affected by the disaster. According to the foundation, the donations will support critical relief and recovery efforts in areas including Gary, providing food, housing supplies, and other essentials to those impacted.
The announcement comes after flooding across the state in early August left seven people dead, displaced more than 1,000 people, and heavily damaged numerous buildings and homes. Described as "record flooding" caused by a derecho storm, the event also destroyed infrastructure and left more than 1,000 people unhoused, according to the foundation's social media post.
Confirmed Details and Local Impact
The BeyGOOD Foundation shared a post on its official Instagram account on Monday detailing the donation. The caption read: "Today BeyGOOD Foundation, founded by Beyoncé, is announcing a donation of $200,000 to help with relief efforts in Indiana. The funds will go to City Life Center and Angel by Nature that's on the ground aiding communities most affected following the record flooding caused by a derecho storm that destroyed infrastructure, leaving more than 1000 people unhoused. The fund will immediately support critical relief and recovery efforts in the neediest areas, including the city of Gary, providing food, household supplies, and other essential resources to individuals and families impacted by the flooding."
The post ended with a call to action, telling followers: "If you'd like to help those impacted by the disaster in Indiana, please consider making a donation at org."
Beyond the flood damages, thousands of northwestern Indiana residents were left without electricity after a violent storm on Aug. 11. Local officials have taken to social media to voice frustration over the restoration, with some residents remaining without power.
Broader Philanthropic Response
The Indiana donation is the latest in a series of relief efforts by Beyoncé. Earlier this month, the singer announced she would make a personal donation of $1 million to support relief efforts in Colombia after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake devastated cities in that country. Over 200 people were killed and thousands of homes were destroyed by the earthquake, which struck Colombia on Aug. 17. According to a press release from Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé's donated funds will help provide food and housing supplies to communities hit hardest by the earthquake. The release also directed people looking for other ways to help to the websites of Food for the Poor and World Central Kitchen.
