Beverley Callard, the actress best known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, has shared a health update with fans, revealing that she requires additional tests after her doctors found "something's not quite right." Her husband, Jon McEwan, has also spoken publicly about the couple's ongoing struggle, describing it as facing "another hurdle."

The 69-year-old actress, who joined the cast of RTE's Fair City in Ireland earlier this year, was diagnosed with breast cancer in February. She recently completed ten rounds of radiotherapy, and her medical team had scheduled a follow-up appointment to assess the treatment's effectiveness.

In an Instagram video posted earlier this week, Callard explained that she had just come from a hospital visit where she met with her surgeon. She said: "I've just come out of the hospital and I saw my surgeon, who is amazing, and my future surgeon because my last surgeon was in England, this one is in Ireland and he's absolutely lovely."

She continued: "They want me to have some more scans and they also want me to see a stomach specialist, a gastroenterologist, because something's not quite right. And he said, 'Mind yourself!' They say that in Ireland!"

The actress also revealed that her doctor advised her to rest more, but she admitted that she finds it difficult to slow down. She said: "He said I'm overdoing it, which I know. And he said I've got to rest a bit more, which I know. But it's really hard because I just can't because if I lay down because I'm tired, my mind I torture myself."

Callard, who is married to Jon McEwan since 2010, reassured fans that she is "doing okay" and not "going into the depths of despair." She added: "But it's just I think, 'Oh, when will I be better?' I'm not a very patient person! But I was there with dozens of women who are all going through the same thing and many of them far worse. So, really, I thank my lucky stars. People come up and say hello and ask how Jon how he's doing, because for partners it's really hard as well."

Jon McEwan, who has been a constant support for the actress, took to his own Instagram on Tuesday to share an update, saying: "We've had an update, I suppose. It wasn't really that good the other day at the hospital. I think we're waiting for them to say Bev is cancer-free, it's all done. But every step you take to hopefully getting to the end of it all, there seems to be another hurdle."

He also mentioned that Callard is "really suffering from nausea" and that the couple is hoping the medical team will address that issue. McEwan praised his wife's resilience but noted her tendency to overexert herself: "She doesn't listen and she'll keep working. I keep saying stop. Not just Fair City, but at home as well. I turn around and there she is, moving tables, painting this, painting that."

He ended his post with a powerful message, writing "F* ", echoing the sentiments of many fans who have sent their support.
