New UPI Limit Management Feature
Axis Bank has introduced a new feature called UPI Limit Management that allows customers to set separate transaction limits for different categories of UPI payments. According to the bank, customers can define personalised thresholds forperson-to-person (P2P) transfers, domestic merchant payments, andinternational merchant transactions, based on their individual payment needs. This gives users an additional layer of control over how much they can transact, as reported by Business Today, CNBC TV18, and NewsBytes.
The feature is accessible through the Axis Mobile Banking App via the pathway: Quick Links → Safety Centre → UPI Module → Control Centre. From there, customers can view their current UPI limits and modify the thresholds according to their preferences. Any changes to the limits require secure authentication through MPIN and OTP verification, the bank stated, as confirmed by multiple reports. Axis Bank also said that customers will receive real-time confirmation of limit changes through in-app notifications and SMS alerts, a detail carried by Business Today.
One of the key aspects of this feature is that the limits set through the Axis Mobile Banking App apply across all UPI applications linked to the customer's Axis Bank account, not just the Axis app itself. This means that if a customer uses multiple UPI apps connected to the same Axis Bank account, the transaction limits configured through the bank's app will be enforced across that entire UPI ecosystem. This was highlighted by all three outlets.
How It Differs from Existing Limits
The bank has not disclosed the specific rupee limits that customers can set under the new facility. However, it explained that UPI transactions are already subject to limits prescribed under the UPI framework, as well as any limits set by individual banks. The new feature adds a customer-level control on top of those existing limits. This means that instead of only operating within the maximum transaction limit allowed by the bank or UPI framework, an eligible customer can set a lower limit for their own account.
For instance, a customer who does not usually make high-value P2P payments could set a lower P2P threshold. This could help limit the amount that can be transferred in the event of an unauthorised or accidental transaction, as noted by CNBC TV18 and NewsBytes. The feature is currently being rolled out to a limited set of customers and will subsequently be made available to the wider customer base, according to CNBC TV18.
Axis Bank described the initiative as part of its broader Safe Banking proposition, which aims to combine customer-controlled safeguards with the convenience of digital payments, as reported by Business Today.
International Travel Declaration Facility
Separately, Axis Bank has introduced an International Travel Declaration facility for eligible credit card customers. This feature allows customers to inform the bank about their overseas travel plans before travelling, as confirmed by Business Today, CNBC TV18, and NewsBytes.
The bank said that this information will be considered as part of its fraud and risk assessment when evaluating international card transactions. The aim is to help distinguish genuine overseas spending from unusual transactions and potentially reduce avoidable declines, as reported by CNBC TV18 and NewsBytes. Customers can access the facility through Credit Card → Control Center → International Travel, according to CNBC TV18.
Both of these new features reflect Axis Bank's efforts to offer customers more control over their digital payment security while maintaining convenience, as stated in the bank's communications.
