M&M and JSW MG Post Strong August Sales; Festive Season Outlook Positive

India's auto sector showed robust momentum in August 2026, with Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and JSW MG Motor India both reporting strong year-on-year growth. M&M, the country's largest multi-utility vehicle maker, said its SUV sales surged 50% to 59,257 units, while total vehicle sales, including exports, rose 42% to 1,07,648 units. JSW MG Motor India posted a 14% increase in wholesale dispatches, reaching 7,508 units.

M&M attributed the growth to strong demand across its portfolio, particularly for the updated Scorpio-N and the BE 6 SPORTEQ. Velusamy R, President of Automotive Business at M&M, said, "In August, we achieved SUV sales of 59,257 units delivering growth of 50%, and total vehicle sales stood at 1,07,648, a 42% YoY growth. Demand continues to remain strong across our portfolio... We look forward to building on this momentum during the festive season."

The company's domestic commercial vehicle sales rose 22% to 27,415 units, while exports increased 71% to 6,054 units. Three-wheeler sales, including electric models, grew 42% to 14,922 units. In the farm equipment segment, domestic tractor sales rose 5% to 27,595 units, with total tractor sales (including exports) up 5% to 29,507 units.

JSW MG Motor India attributed its growth to the launch of the MG Hector Tomahawk, its first SUV built on the ADAPT platform—India's first Multi-New Energy Vehicle platform. Available in both electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, the model aims to offer customers flexibility to meet diverse mobility needs.

Separately, Bajaj Auto reported dispatches of 2,01,898 two-wheelers in August, a 10% increase year-on-year from 1,84,109 units in August 2025.
