Ananthan Kaadu OTT Release: Arya's Action Drama to Stream from September 2
Arya's action drama 'Ananthan Kaadu' is set to make its digital premiere on September 2, according to the makers. The film, which had its theatrical release on June 25, will be available for Indian viewers on Prime Video, Lionsgate Play, and Manorama Max. Audiences outside India can stream it on Simply South, as confirmed by the production team in a social media announcement.
Directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar and written by Murali Gopy, 'Ananthan Kaadu' marks the reunion of the duo after their earlier collaboration on 'Tiyaan'. The film is jointly produced by S Vinod Kumar's Mini Studios and Arya's The Show People.
Plot and Setting
Set against the backdrop of 1990s Thiruvananthapuram, the film revolves around a group of local thugs whose lives change after they join forces with a Sri Lankan Tamil rebel against a common enemy. The narrative, according to The Times of India, takes place during a politically volatile period in Kerala and explores the lives of ordinary people caught between political interests, gangsters, and influential power brokers. The Sri Lankan Civil War forms another important backdrop.
Cast and Crew
Arya plays Vetrivel Kumaran, one of the central characters in the movie, as per The Times of India. The film also features Murali Gopy, Indrans, Vijayaraghavan, Dev Mohan, Appani Sarath, Santhi Balachandran, and Nikhila Vimal in supporting roles, along with Sunil, Achyuth Kumar, Regina Cassandra, and others, according to The New Indian Express. The technical crew includes cinematographer S Yuva, editor Rohit VS Variyath, and composer B Ajaneesh Loknath.
Critical Reception
The film opened to largely mixed reviews, as reported by The New Indian Express. An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "There are flashes of a more ambitious film buried within Ananthan Kaadu, one that could have meaningfully explored questions of identity, displacement, and state violence. Instead, it largely (and strangely) chooses the safer route of a conventional revenge entertainer."
The ETimes review gave 'Ananthan Kaadu' 2.5 stars out of 5, stating, "Arya is presented as the central face of the film, but his character Vetrivel Kumaran, does not receive enough space to leave a lasting impact. His personal story gets tangled with several other narratives, and as a result, the emotional weight of his revenge is not fully felt. Murali Gopy performs with restraint and Indrans stands out in the serious portions. Vijayaraghavan, Dev Mohan, Appani Sarath, Santhi Balachandran, Nikhila Vimal, and the rest of the cast perform their parts sincerely."
