Incident at Miami International
An Amazon Prime Air cargo flight overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, striking multiple vehicles and erupting into a blaze, according to officials. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. ET (1800 GMT) when Prime Air Flight 7598 overshot the airport's diagonal runway and came to a stop at the airport's northwest end, where it was left disabled, officials said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that firefighters were "working on extinguishing the fire and assessing patients." The extent of injuries, if any, was not immediately available, and authorities said information about possible casualties was not yet confirmed.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on X that a full ground stop is in place "while first responders assess the scene."
Flight Details and Airport Response
The plane had taken off from Puerto Rico at noon and reached Miami around 2 p.m., according to data from Flight Aware, a plane tracking service. As of 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT), all runways and taxiways at the airport were closed, disrupting flight operations at the busy airport. The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the incident.
A representative from Amazon did not immediately return a request for comment on Sunday.
