An air-conditioning technician died after falling from the 11th floor of a 29-storey residential building in Bandra's Kalanagar area on Saturday, according to police reports. The incident took place at the Ten BKC complex at around 12.30pm while Ziyadul Shamshujuha Huda, 27, was fitting an outdoor AC unit from outside a window.
Kherwadi police detained supervisor Indrajit Chauhan, 30, and AC contractor Tashvar Ali Ibbarat Ali Mansuri, 28, on allegations of negligence. A police officer said the two were detained after a preliminary investigation indicated they had not followed proper safety measures, which contributed to the fatal fall.
The officer added that although Chauhan and Mansuri claimed they had provided a safety harness, it was not yet clear whether Huda had fastened it correctly or whether the two had checked the equipment before assigning the work. Huda was wearing a safety belt at the time but no helmet, the officer said.
A co-worker, Atikur Rehman Mohammad Sagir Mansuri, 21, who was assisting Huda, told police that Huda lost his balance and fell. A pedestrian who witnessed the incident reportedly flagged down a patrolling police vehicle near the Mhada office opposite Gurunanak Hospital at about 1.45pm, leading officers to the scene. Police constable Mangesh Chavari said in the FIR that the pedestrian informed them a person had fallen from the Ten BKC building.
Huda, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, suffered multiple injuries including to his face, jaw, and elbow, as well as internal injuries, and was declared dead before admission to Sion Hospital, police said. Further investigation is underway.
