Abhishek Banerjee has stepped down as casting director at Casting Bay, the casting company he co-founded with Anmol Ahuja in 2017. The actor, known for roles in films like Stree and Paatal Lok, announced the decision on social media, marking a shift in his professional focus toward acting and other creative pursuits. As he wrote, “Sometimes moving forward doesn’t mean leaving something behind.”

A Company Built on Friendship

Casting Bay was established by Banerjee and Ahuja in 2017. In a statement shared on social media, Banerjee explained the origins of the company: “Casting Bay was created by two friends with a shared vision and love for the craft. Over time, as life and professional journeys evolved, their paths naturally took different directions. Abhishek has now retired from Casting Bay and continues with his acting career and other professional pursuits.”

Co-founder Anmol Ahuja will continue to lead and develop the company, as both men have done in recent years. The statement emphasized that the transition is professional, not a rift between the co-founders: “Abhishek and Anmol remain proud of what they created together, grateful for the journey they shared, and wish each other nothing but the very best for the road ahead.” It concluded, “It simply means being grateful for the road you travelled together and excited about the roads that now lie ahead.”

The Reasoning Behind the Decision

In additional comments to HT City, Banerjee elaborated on his reasons for stepping away. He said his increasingly demanding acting career made it difficult to give Casting Bay the attention it deserved. Managing administrative responsibilities alongside a packed shooting schedule had become increasingly challenging, and he noted that casting requires a personal presence in the casting room, which he could no longer consistently provide. He felt it was better to step aside and allow a younger team to take the company forward if he could not give it full attention.

Another consideration was the potential overlap between his dual identities as an actor and a casting professional. While few projects had overlapped directly, he believed removing any ambiguity was the right move. His departure is a complete separation from Casting Bay, not a temporary break. He has not ruled out returning to casting in a different capacity, voicing a hope to contribute to a more organized and democratic ecosystem for casting professionals.

What’s Next for Banerjee

Banerjee’s acting schedule is set to keep him busy. He is attached to projects including Mirzapur: The Movie, Lust Stories 3, a Tamil debut opposite R. Madhavan, and a negative lead opposite Tiger Shroff. He also has expressed a desire to explore writing and producing, including work outside the conventional acting space. Known for his roles in films like Go Goa Gone and streaming series like The Family Man, Banerjee continues to build a diverse career.

The announcement of his retirement from Casting Bay has been covered widely, with reports from Bollywood Hungama and Lokmat Times detailing the company background and upcoming projects, while NewsX emphasized his personal reasoning. All three sources confirm the core fact of his departure and the continuity of the company under Ahuja.
