Minteh's representatives hold out hope for late Liverpool move

Yankuba Minteh's agents reportedly remain hopeful of securing a deadline day transfer to Liverpool for the Brighton winger, according to Yardbarker. The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield throughout August, although talks appeared to have stalled in recent days as Brighton hold out for £80m for the Gambia international, having rejected two offers from Merseyside, the second of which was £60m.

Ben Jacobs told talkSPORT (via GIVEMESPORT): "Cody Gakpo is staying at Liverpool but, Yankuba Minteh's representatives are still seeking a move to Liverpool, and they hope that it happens today." Jacobs acknowledged that such a transfer is unlikely to materialise before the 11pm deadline.

Liverpool have also been exploring Ismaila Sarr of Crystal Palace as an alternative right-sided target, but with Cody Gakpo now set to stay at Anfield and Bradley Barcola having completed his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, it seems less likely that another winger will be signed today.

Gakpo stays amid City interest

Liverpool have rejected an £80m offer from Manchester City for Cody Gakpo in the past 24 hours, according to The Athletic, as reported by Yardbarker. The Dutch winger has begun the campaign with a goal and an assist from his first two games, and is now set to remain at Anfield. SPORTbible reported that Liverpool pulled the plug on Gakpo's transfer to Manchester City despite the Dutchman agreeing personal terms.

Liverpool complete Brughmans signing

Liverpool completed a Deadline Day signing of goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from KRC Genk on September 1, with the 18-year-old penning a long-term contract. Brughmans will cost up to £30 million, making him the most expensive teenage goalkeeper ever after beating Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to his signature. The 6ft 7in Belgian will return to Genk for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign before returning to Anfield ahead of the 2027/28 campaign.

Mamardashvili stays as second choice

The signing of Brughmans has implications for Giorgi Mamardashvili's future at Anfield. Nottingham Forest made an enquiry for Mamardashvili over the weekend, but their interest hasn't advanced since, with the 25-year-old set to stay as second choice to Alisson Becker. Mamardashvili, who joined from Valencia in 2025, sees his contract expire in 2031 and has made 20 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.

Iraola's squad additions

Andoni Iraola has made four additions to his squad this summer, including the £123 million transfer of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, plus Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, and Ronald Araujo. Liverpool were left frustrated in attempts to sign Yankuba Minteh from Brighton or Ismaila Sarr from Crystal Palace.

Minteh is out injured for the foreseeable future, according to Yardbarker, which noted that if he were to join, Iraola would have six senior wingers vying for two starting berths.
