San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York pleaded no contest on Monday to two misdemeanor charges—disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools—following his arrest in East Palestine, Ohio, over the weekend, according to multiple reports.
York, 46, was arrested Sunday at Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine, as reported by the Staten Island Advance, which cited WKBN-27. The arrest was carried out by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, assisted by the East Palestine Police Department. He posted a $5,000 bond.
Court documents, as obtained by the California Post and cited by the Hindustan Times, state that York responded to an ad on a prostitution website and "arranged to have sexual activity with the female in exchange for $140." The initial charge of engaging in prostitution was reduced to disorderly conduct, according to reports from TMZ and the New York Post, as cited by the Hindustan Times. Newsweek reported that the arrest report does not specify what the "criminal tools" were.
York was sentenced to one day in the Columbiana County Jail for each charge, to be served concurrently, and fined $1,150, according to the Hindustan Times, which cited court records obtained by USA Today and WKBN. Newsweek added that he was also ordered to complete an online course. The Staten Island Advance, however, reported a sentence of two days, served concurrently, and the same fine. York served his sentence and was released Monday morning, according to Newsweek.
Family Background and Career
York, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, about 30 minutes from the arrest site, graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School, as reported by the Staten Island Advance. He has been the 49ers' CEO since December 2008, according to the Hindustan Times, though the Staten Island Advance gave the year as 2010. He became the franchise's principal owner in 2024, a point on which all reports agree.
York comes from the DeBartolo family, which has deep ties to the 49ers. His mother, Denise DeBartolo York, is a co-chair of the team and sister of former owner Edward J. DeBartolo Jr. His father, Dr. John York, is also a co-chair, as detailed by the Hindustan Times.

The NFL is reviewing the matter under its personal conduct policy, which applies to owners, according to Newsweek. A league spokesperson told Newsweek: "We are aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy."
