Victim Identified in Fatal Bowie Shooting

A 38-year-old Bowie woman died Aug. 25, five days after being shot in what police describe as a domestic-related incident. The Bowie Police Department identified the victim as Shawanda Alston, of Bowie.

Officers were called to the 8500 block of Myrtle Avenue at about 4:20 p.m. on Aug. 20 for a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Alston in the bedroom of the home with gunshot wounds to her upper torso, according to authorities.

Suspect Arrested, Weapon Recovered

Police arrested Kimball Alton Hinton, Jr., 41, who was found in the front yard of the home when officers arrived. Authorities also recovered the weapon they believe was used in the crime.

In a press release, Chief of Police Dwayne A. Preston expressed condolences, saying, "Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of Ms. Alston during this unimaginably difficult time."

The investigation is ongoing, and further details were not immediately available.
