The Pentagon has awarded approximately $149 million in contracts to three small businesses based in Maryland, Illinois, and New Jersey, according to a notice issued on Aug. 24. Largest Award for Armor Development

Hardwire LLC, based in Pocomoke City, Maryland, received the largest contract, valued at $99 million, to develop advanced processing methods for metallic armor. The company was the only one to respond to the request for proposal. Defense Blog noted that the Army is seeking to reduce vehicle armor weight while maintaining current levels of ballistic protection. The project is expected to be completed on Aug. 23, 2031, with the Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, issuing the contract.

The single-bidder outcome underscores the specialized nature of the work, which aligns with the military's ongoing efforts to improve vehicle survivability without compromising protection.

Illinois Company to Handle Maintenance and Repairs

Widman Inc., based in Godfrey, Illinois, was awarded a $30 million contract to perform property maintenance and repairs. The scope of work includes paving and sealing, chip-and-seal work, riprap and stone placement, and grading and earthwork for wetlands, floodplains, and levees. Work locations are to be determined. Widman was selected from three companies that responded to the solicitation.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in St. Louis, Missouri, will issue task orders under this agreement, which runs through Aug. 23, 2031.

The selection process, which drew interest from three firms, indicates a competitive bidding environment for the maintenance contract.

New Jersey Firm to Address Coastal Stormwater Infrastructure

Agate Construction Co. Inc., based in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, received a $20 million contract to repair or extend existing stormwater outfalls along the Atlantic Ocean coastline of Absecon Island in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, issued the award.

This project is part of ongoing efforts to manage coastal flooding and stormwater runoff in the region, reflecting the Army Corps' role in infrastructure resilience.
