The Seattle Seahawks continue their preseason schedule with a Sunday night matchup against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, the second of three exhibition contests before the regular season. The game, kicking off at 5 p.m. Seattle time and airing on Fox, comes as the team prepares for the roster cutdown from 91 to 53 players on Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. The team and the Titans held a joint practice on Friday, part of a busy few days for the players. The Seahawks' preparation has been shaped by several developments, including injuries and the signing of a veteran cornerback.

Roster moves and injuries

The team's roster decisions have been influenced by a series of injuries. Wide receiver Jake Bobo is expected to miss the season with a torn ACL, an injury sustained during a practice, which has opened opportunities for other receivers. Bud Clark is also out for multiple months with a broken ankle, potentially giving D'Anthony Bell a chance to earn a roster spot. Conversely, the team added veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs, a first-team All-Pro with Dallas in 2021, adding competition at that position. Diggs will not play Sunday, according to multiple reports.

Running back situation

First-round pick Jadarian Price, projected to replace departed running back Kenneth Walker III, will not play in the preseason games against the Titans or Chiefs. According to a report, Price sat out the mock game and the first preseason game with what was described as vaguely defined soreness, and the decision to hold him out is aimed at preventing a future injury rather than responding to a current one. Price did get a handful of snaps in the joint practice and is "ramping back up," as reported by some sources. The team has also been without running back Zach Charbonnet, who is out for the start of the regular season, and Emanuel Wilson... Wilson is out with a hamstring injury that is expected to be resolved for the regular season. This has left George Holani as the only healthy running back among the expected options, and he took a team-high 12 carries against the Cowboys last week. Jacardia Wright is also back after taking part in the joint practice.

Receiver competition

With Bobo out, the receiver competition has become more important. Sources indicate Cody White and Montorie Foster are the two most obvious candidates for the open spot. Ricky White III, Emmanuel Henderson Jr., and Rashad Rochelle may get more chances. Henderson was a special teams whiz in college and could be in the mix. The issue with White includes a terrible decision on a punt return last week that gave the Titans deep field position, though he had also showed consistency. The last week's game also featured Cody White and Henderson returning punts and kickoffs, with Henderson also being more consistent.

Quarterback evaluation

The backup quarterback competition is also in focus. Drew Lock, the primary backup candidate, had a solid start against the Cowboys last week, completing 9 of 13 passes for a touchdown. In the Titans game, he threw for 103 yards, and a 1 touchdown. Jalen Milroe also rotated with Lock last week, but he completed 5 of 8 passes for 36 yards and also ran for 36 yards. In the later report, Lock's numbers were not matched by Milroe, who threw 2 interceptions and was sacked twice in another game where he struggled. Coach Macdonald... said he sees room to grow in Milroe's performance.

Defensive line and edge rushers

In the defensive line, the team could use a fifth edge rusher to take a handful of snaps a game, as noted by reports. Brandon Pili is a candidate for an interior defensive line spot. Mike Morris is entering the final year of his contract, and his performance in the game will be watched. At cornerback, Nehemiah Pritchett and Noah Igbinoghene might be on the bubble after the team signed Trevon Diggs, but Iganoghene's slot work may shield him from the addition. Pritchett is still fighting for his spot with rookie Julian Neal ahead, according to sources.

Penalties and discipline

The coaches have also been addressing discipline. The Seahawks were flagged for eight penalties for 71 yards in the Dallas game, which head coach Mike Macdonald called "a good wakeup call" on the league's sloppiness. He also went after the joint practice saying ... team got a lot of reps in and that starters might get upwards of 20 reps in a preseason game but 40-50 in a joint practice, which is a positive for everybody. As the lineup decisions are made, the team's focus is on those pivotal evaluations before the roster is set.
