Shooting Near Santa Monica Pier Leaves One Injured

A person was shot in the leg near the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday evening after an attempted robbery escalated into violence, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The incident occurred at around 7:50 p.m. near the pier ramp, when a man was approached by a group of people who attempted to rob him, police said in a statement. An altercation broke out, and one person produced a firearm and shot the victim before the group fled the area.

Officers treated the victim at the scene until paramedics arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital. Police said the injuries were not life-threatening. The victim has not been publicly identified.
